Busy day: taking a lone soldier back to base, picking up some new synagogue furniture for the ancient synagogue in Hevron, seeing another lone soldier in the Old City and guests still working to strengthen the Jewish Presence in Jerusalem! Still not done yet!

Happy Hanukkah!

Happy Hanukkah from the Jerusalem Heritage House in the liberated Old City of Jerusalem. This Hanukkah has been quite a special one, mostly because of all the attacks at the UN and in DC against us even being here.

Not surprisingly, we have responded in Maccabean style:

Chanukiah is ready for the second night in the Ancient Synagogue in Hevron!

Satchel Cornfeld- Lone Soldier Heritage House

Satchel Kornfeld- Lone Soldier

Name: Satchel Kornfeld

Age: 23

Profession: EMT

Education: BS in History

Originally from Oregon, Satchel moved east after high school living in D.C. for 3 years, followed by 3 years in Maryland.

After visiting Israel on the Taglit Birthright program in 2012 and learning a little about his Jewish heritage, Satchel decided to return to Israel with intensions of volunteering in the Israeli Defense Force in the Winter of 2015. After a short time in Tel Aviv, He came to the Heritage House to experience life in the Old City of Jerusalem and has considered it home ever since. “I never thought I’d be living so close to the Kotel.”

The Heritage House has assisted Satchel to experience Israel through tours of many places and volunteer work on many projects. “Going to the West Bank in Kfar Tapuach showed me the truth about the West Bank.” “Pesach in Kfar Adomim was one of my best experiences in Israel to date and that wouldn’t have been possible without the Heritage House.”

Satchel helps build a Synagogue in Kfar Tapuach,

When asked why join the the Army at all, he said: “I believe in the state of Israel and I believe that we all need to do our best to defend it to the greatest ability we can.” Satchel is currently going through Basic Training though he will soon be informed of which unit he will be serving in.

You can follow Satchel's adventures on his blog Satuchuation .

September Update! Year Review!

September Update! Year Review!

Its been an absolutely incredible year for the Jerusalem Heritage House!

Shana Tova - Happy Jewish New Year from the Old City of Jerusalem!! Its been an incredible year for the Jerusalem Heritage House, with more accomplishments than any newsletter could possibly contain. We had many, many highs throughout the year and the very low moment of losing our "lone soldier" guest Max Steinberg, hy'd, in Gaza. We remain extremely proud of Max and of all of our other "lone soldiers" that served and continue to serve. Many of our guests have made the crucial decision to strengthen their Jewish identity through education and action and some have already established faithful Jewish families that further secure Jewish continuity well into the future. This year we can say with confidence that we have successfully strengthened the Jewish People and the Land of Israel, spiritually and physically!

Accomplishments:

-Over 750 individual guests for the year

-Over 750 individual guests for the year

-Over 100 guests went on to participate in extended programs in Israel (over 50 to Yeshivas)

-Over 120 "lone soldiers" - hosted and visited, including on the Gaza border

-52 Shabbat mincha minyans with Torah reading (Thanks to the Rabinowitz Family)

-Siyum Shas Mishnayos in memory of Max Steinberg, hy'd, our beloved friend and guest, killed while heroically fighting in Gaza

I want to personally thank all of our friends and supporters from the bottom of my heart and bless each and every one for a new year of complete blessing and health.

Many of you I assume have enjoyed the quality of the updates over the past year. This is completely due to the hardwork and dedication of the House Manager, Matt Glassman. There is so much more that he does as well for the House, it can't all be mentioned here, but from making all the Shabbat and holiday meals for the House as well as updating the website, paying bills, you name it, the list goes on and on.

As we say on Rosh Hashanah in the prayers - giving tzedekah has the power to change our entire future, especially in the auspicious time right before Rosh Hashanah. Please remember the Jerusalem Heritage House and the very important work we are doing with future of the Jewish People here in the Old City of Jerusalem. Your generous support is the only way we are able to do what we do!

I am in the midst of planning a trip to the States following the Sukkot holiday, I plan to be in Los Angeles, Arizona, Chicago, Charlotte and New York. Looking forward to seeing as many friends as possible in the New Year!
